Cookies, advertising and your choices.

Mayfly uses one essential cookie to keep you signed in. Public content pages also load Google AdSense, which may use third-party cookies to serve and measure ads. Here is what each part does and how to control it.

Essential cookies

Mayfly sets one first-party cookie when you sign in:

Name: mf_session
Set by: Mayfly (first party)
Purpose: keep an approved account signed in
Lifetime: up to 7 days, or until you sign out or clear it
Attributes: HttpOnly, SameSite=Lax, Secure on the public site

This cookie contains a signed session token. It is not used for advertising or analytics. Blocking it in your browser means you cannot use the signed-in dashboard. Changing your password invalidates existing sessions and revokes API keys.

Advertising cookies

Public pages load Google AdSense so the site can show ads. Google and its advertising partners may place or read cookies and similar identifiers in your browser to:

  • serve ads on this and other websites;
  • limit how often the same ad is shown;
  • measure ad impressions and interactions;
  • personalize ads based on prior visits, depending on your region, consent and Google account settings.

These cookies are controlled by Google and its partners, not by Mayfly. The exact cookie names and lifetimes can change. They may include identifiers used for advertising and frequency capping. You can inspect or delete them in your browser's site-data settings.

What Mayfly does not use

  • No first-party analytics product or session-recording tool.
  • No marketing email tracking pixels.
  • No cross-site tracking for Mayfly's own advertising.
  • No sale of personal information.

The host stores operational logs and account data as described in the privacy policy. Those records are used to run and secure the service, not to build an advertising profile.

How to control advertising

  • Open Google Ads Settings to opt out of personalized ads from Google.
  • Use aboutads.info or Your Online Choices to manage participating third-party advertising vendors.
  • Use your browser's cookie and site-data controls to block or delete third-party cookies. Blocking third-party cookies may not remove every ad, but it can limit personalization.
  • Use a private browsing window or a content blocker if you want to browse the public pages without persistent advertising cookies.
  • Clear the mf_session cookie or sign out to end a Mayfly session.

Opting out of personalized advertising does not mean ads disappear. It means the ads may be based less on your previous browsing. Mayfly does not control Google's ad inventory or the choices available in your region.

Providers and more information

Mayfly uses Cloudflare for edge delivery and Google for advertising. Those providers process data under their own policies:

Mayfly's own handling of personal data is described in the privacy policy. For account-specific requests, use the contact page.

This page describes current practices in plain language. It does not replace the third-party policies linked above.
